Society stubbornly clings to the image of women as “caregivers” and “guardians of the home.” Qualities such as empathy, self-sacrifice, and organizational skills are often attributed to women—as if they were innate and biologically determined. What historical, social, and political developments have shaped this role model, how have women's movements challenged it, and where is change visible today? And last but not least: How can the gender care gap be closed?
